Using a Courtyard
Prem was born in Amravati in the year 1957. He used to live with us before he bought another land on the opposite end of the street and build home in 1982, shortly after he got married to Indira in 1976. Prem was a cousin of my father and when they moved, it was their entire side of the family that consisted of him, his wife, 3 kids and Prem’s parents.
The courtyard, once blooming with life now just sits off as an abandond room.

​A courtyard, which was normal across the street was created between the floors which used to be a common space for relaxing or talking to other members of the house. Indira always founnd her self along the edges of the corridor talking to her sister-in-laws or just playing with ther kids.
Soon as the house grew empty after Indira’s kids moved out and the ground floor space of the courtyard was used as a godown, the courtyard itself had to be covered because constant rain used to create a messs on the ground floro and rodents would jump floors just to attack the food stack
It was done so on multiple levels, ehich also increased the storage space.
After a few years it was covered with GI sheets after the life aspect moved out of the unit and the courtyard was permanently sealed off.
