Settlement Study
Divar Island, Goa
The island of Divar lies in the Mandovi river in the Indian state of Goa, located approximately upriver 10 km from Panjim the island is dis-connected from Old Goa on the south-east side, Ribandar, on the south-west side and Naroa on the north side, all by ferry. A launch also connects Divar to the city of Panjim from further north-west, in the island-village of Vanxim. The Konkan Railway passes through the village and the nearest stop to the village is the train station at Carambolim.
We divided the island along the three paths on the island i.e. one from the Ribandar Jetty, one from Old Goa and the last one from Naroa Jetty till the Divar Centre where all of the path meet.

The first step revolves around identifying an element on site which can be something physical, sensorial, a particular species which contributes to the formation of the environment . One follows this element throughout the day to observe changes and rhythms at different times, to interpret observations and information to seek inquiry. The next day, the observer interrogates the accumulated observations and identifies the patterns discovered. Simultaneously, engagement with the local communities and archival data adds a layer of negotiation between contemporary information and historical data resulting in a more detailed understanding of an element.
